The R & D Lab - Umbra Department of Research and Development - was created in 2006 to support research and continuous development of solutions, services and innovative Umbra products.
Inventions, innovations and creativity are the dominant factors in the genetic code of Umbra.
The inventions have potential for success when they are the result of reflections on the mega trends that affect markets and motivate, therefore, the development of a unique product that meets customer needs.
The R & D Lab relies significant part of its action on the establishment of several recurring synergies possible through the continuous demand for complementary and interdependent relationships with partner organizations, including suppliers and customers.
In this context it becomes evident that several of the most important products of Umbra were and are developed in R & D Lab.
Currently our main research interest relates to the environment.
Issues such as Sustainability, Energy Certification, the proper use of natural resources, have increased visibility and perception.
The environmental dimension of buildings can act as an important differentiating aspect at a time when the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI - http://www.unepfi.org/) has managed to promote the progressive inclusion of environmental risks in constructions on the credit analysis performed by some of the major national banks. Umbra believes that the sun protection systems can be part of the solution and not the problem, in environmental matters.
We are testing and developing prototypes that engage, to some of our products, photovoltaic cells.
The idea is to combine the two products used in construction and which are increasingly more important - sun protection systems and mechanisms for use of radiation of the sun itself, thus creating a new form of BIPV (Building Integrated PHOTOVOLTAICS)..
